SUN FOREST CONSTRUCTION, Central Oregon’s most longstanding and diversified custom home builder and remodeling company well known for its integrity, quality and service currently have open positions available for a Finish Carpenter, Lead Carpenter, General Carpenter, and a Laborer/Carpenter Assistant.

 

FINISH CARPENTER-

Position Summary:

Under limited supervision, constructs, erects, installs and/or repairs interior and exterior structures and fixtures of wood, plywood and wallboard, conforming to local building codes and Sun Forest quality standards.  Specializes in high-end quality finish carpentry skills and craftsmanship.

 Qualifications:

  • 5 Years experience in a residential finish carpentry position.

  • Valid Oregon driver’s license and driving record that meet insurance requirements.

  • Must be approved to wear a respirator using OSHA guidelines.

  • Must have basic set of hand tools.

 Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • Must have detailed knowledge of all aspects of interior trim, stair systems, & installation of different types of trim styles.

  • Detailed knowledge of codes pertaining to interior trim and stair systems.

  • Must have a thorough knowledge of carpenter tools and practices.

  • Must have a thorough understanding of wood sanding procedure, including knowledge of wood grain, sandpaper specifications and grits, and hand power sanding tools.

  • Must have thorough knowledge of standard finish carpenter techniques, such as specialty trims, closet and storage systems.

  • Must be able to cut and install all types of trim work, hang all types of doors, install base, paneling, and complete specialty trim work such as mantels and built in cabinets.

  • Must have a working knowledge of architectural drawings and specifications.

  • Must have a general knowledge of international building codes and allowable construction techniques.

  • Must have high ethical standards & be able to uphold Sun Forest’s excellent reputation in the business community.

  • Must have the physical ability to meet the demands of the position, which include standing, stooping, kneeling, crawling, climbing on 20 ft. ladders and roof slopes (restrained), & reaching,  Must be able to work productively for long periods of time at all required working heights – usually in the range of 0-30 feet above the ground or nearest building level surface.  Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds.  Will occasionally be exposed to severe weather conditions, and be around construction dust, occasional paint and lacquer fumes, and construction noise.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions within the limits of the physical demands of this position.

 Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Performs interior or exterior repair, remodel or new construction carpentry work as assigned.  This could include preparing drawings, material take-offs, framing, siding, cabinet installation, appliance installation, demolition, interior trim, stair systems, closet packages, and hardware installation.

  2. Uses knowledge of building codes and construction practices to perform assigned tasks correctly.

  3. Responsible for maintaining quality and production standards on jobs assigned. 

  4. Maintain a clean, safe job site at all times.

  5. Helps train and supervise junior level carpenters and apprentices.

  6. Represents Sun Forest’s best interests with employees and subcontractors, and reports any issues of concern to Project Managers. 

  7. Exhibits good judgment, high ethical standards, & reliability at all times, and represents Sun Forest reputably with our clients, staff, suppliers, business associates, and in the community.

LEAD CARPENTER-

Position Summary:

Under limited supervision, constructs, erects, installs and/or repairs interior and exterior structures and fixtures of wood, plywood and wallboard, conforming to local building codes and Sun Forest quality standards. 

 Qualifications:

  • 5 Years experience in a residential carpentry position.

  • Must have detailed knowledge of all aspects of residential framing (wood and light steel construction); floor and wall systems; truss and stick-built roof systems; exterior envelop (various types of cladding / finishes, windows, doors, and roofing); and interior (backing, preparation for finishes, wall straightening, etc).

  • Must be able to make supervisory decisions while upholding SFC standards and production time line.

GENERAL CARPENTER-

Position Summary:

Under general supervision, performs demolition, excavation, and constructs, erects, installs and/or repairs interior and exterior structures and fixtures of wood, plywood and wallboard, conforming to residential building codes and Sun Forest quality standards. 

 Qualifications:

  • 3-5 Years experience in a residential carpentry position.

  • Valid Oregon driver’s license and driving record that meet insurance requirements.

  • Must have basic set of hand tools.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • Must have a general knowledge of carpentry tools and practices.

  • Must have a general understanding of wood sanding procedures, including knowledge of wood grain, sandpaper specifications and grits, and hand power sanding tools.

  • Must have general knowledge of residential carpentry techniques such as window/door installation, trims, and closet and storage systems.

  • Must be able to cut, frame and install all types of trim work, hang doors, install base, paneling, and assist with specialty carpentry work such as mantles and built-in cabinets.

  • Must have general knowledge of reading blueprints.

 Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Performs basic interior or exterior repair, remodel or new construction carpentry work as assigned.  This may include site demolition work.

  2. Maintain a clean, safe job site at all times.

  3. Make sure job site is “broom clean” at the end of each day.

  4. Basic appliance installation.

  5. Basic door and cabinetry hardware installation.

  6. Must be willing to learn and implement SFC construction standards.

LABORER/CARPENTER ASSISTANT-

Position Summary:

Performs general construction duties such as site preparation, protection, cleanup, light carpentry work, and maintenance.  This may include staking site boundaries, assisting with window installation, under-floor inspections, installing temporary doors, straightening walls, cutting and installing trim, demolition, dump runs, assisting with appliance installation, safety compliance, and other construction related tasks.

 Qualifications:

  • General construction knowledge and basic carpentry skills, with working knowledge of carpentry tools.

  • Must be at least 18 years old.

  • Be in good physical condition (see below for details)

  • Valid Oregon driver’s license and driving record that meet insurance requirements.

  • Basic set of hand tools.

 Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • Knowledge and ability to perform various construction labor tasks.

  • Ability to operate small power tools

  • Ability to work independently with responsible use of time.

  • Must be able with proper instruction to operate small to medium size construction vehicles, such as Bobcats, trenchers, forklifts, etc.

  • Must possess a basic knowledge of construction safety following OSHA guidelines.

  • Must have high ethical standards & be able to uphold Sun Forest’s excellent reputation in the business community.

  • Must have the physical ability to meet the demands of the position, which include standing, stooping, kneeling, crawling, climbing on 20 ft. ladders and roofs, reaching,  Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds,   Will occasionally be exposed to severe weather conditions, and be around construction dust, occasional paint and lacquer fumes, and construction noise.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions within the limits of the physical demands of this position.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Picks up and moves or loads lumber scraps and general construction trash and debris, such as plywood, dimensional lumber, drywall scraps, wood and metal small debris, paper and paint products.  May also make trips to the landfill to dump trash.

  2. Assist carpenters with window installation, cutting wood, framing, siding, appliance installation, and various other duties.

  3. Operates small power tools for demolition and small project work.

  4. Uses hand tools for digging and earth moving.

  5. Cleans construction surfaces by safely using chemicals & cleaners.

  6. Performs light touch up work using paints and stains.

  7. Erects and disassembles scaffolding, ladders and other work platforms.

  8. Must have full knowledge of Sun Forest construction standards and apply them to daily assignments.

  9. Troubleshoot job sites and inform Project Managers of potential problems.  Keep eyes & ears open to SFC standards in all phases of construction.

  10. Work with and communicate effectively with co-workers, managers, suppliers, sub-contractors, and clients as needed.

  11. Exhibits good judgment, high ethical standards, & reliability at all times, and represents Sun Forest reputably with our clients, staff, suppliers, business associates, and in the community.
